A Glimpse of History

A Glimpse of History is an ongoing series of photographic books exploring the traces of the past that continue to shape our present. Through photography and original poetry, the series seeks to reveal the stories held within landscapes, structures, and everyday objects that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

The first working volumes in the series are Industrial Heritage and Woven Through Time. While each explores a different aspect of history, both share a common purpose: to preserve moments of reflection and encourage a deeper appreciation of the people, places, and events that have left their mark upon the world around us.

As these projects continue to develop, they remain united by a belief that history is not confined to archives and monuments, it lives on in the remnants, memories, and quiet details woven into our daily lives.

Woven Through Time

Woven Through Time will take a broader view, examining the threads that connect people, places, and objects across time. From a weathered park swing that recalls generations of childhood memories to monuments, pathways, and forgotten corners of the landscape, the project explores how history is often found in the ordinary as much as the monumental.

Industrial Heritage

Industrial Heritage focuses on the physical remnants of industry—engine houses, mills, quarries, railways, and other structures that once formed the backbone of working life. Through photography and reflection, it seeks to preserve not only what remains but also the stories and achievements these places represent.

Beyond "Faith in Full Sight

The inspiration for A Glimpse of History grew naturally from my earlier book, Faith in Full Sight. While that work explored the enduring presence of faith through the architecture, atmosphere, and history of abbeys, cathedrals, and sacred spaces, it also revealed something broader: the powerful stories that places can hold long after their original purpose has faded from memory.

Through creating Faith in Full Sight, I found myself increasingly drawn not only to religious heritage but to the wider traces of history that surround us every day. From industrial landmarks and forgotten structures to humble objects and familiar landscapes, each carries echoes of the people, events, and lives that helped shape our world.

This realisation became the foundation of A Glimpse of History, a continuing photographic and poetic series that seeks to uncover and celebrate these connections to the past. Where Faith in Full Sight explored history through the lens of faith, A Glimpse of History broadens that vision, inviting us to discover the stories woven into the places and remnants that endure around us.
